Marriage & Pre marriage counseling

Communication

Marriage is hard work. Imagine how hard it is when we don't or can't communicate with each other. Learning how to communicate with one another and being able to compromise is a big part of marriage.  Understanding that you are both different individuals and see things differently and not seeing your partner as being wrong but having their own view will be helpful at saving your marriage.

Expectations

It is never a good idea to think that our spouse is going to know our expectations without expressing them to them. More arguments start because we assume our partner is going to go along with our expectation when they are clueless or worse yet have a different expectation that ours.

Before getting married, it is an excellent idea to discuss every possible expectation from what type of Christmas tree, toothpaste, whose doing housework, where you will be going on vacation, yardwork, curfews for teenagers, finances. These may seem minor, but having a plan before running into one of these obstacles will save you from having a huge blowup in your marriage.

Love & Respect

Love and Respect go hand in hand in a marriage. Learn each other's love language (Gary Chapman) and live by it religiously. When men feel respected they will show their wives the love they need and when wives filled loved they respect their husbands more.

Marriage is constant work on both parts, but it can be a great thing if you both show each other the love you deserve. Listen to each other with pure hearts and put your spouses feelings before your own.
